2 March 2023
The first edition of the Journalism Trust Initiative workshop dedicated to Italian media will take place on Tuesday, March 14. Representatives from the press, TV, radio, online media, and magazines will convene at Luiss in Rome for a workshop by the Journalism Trust Initiative on how to "transform responsibility into a resource."
The event is organized by Reporters Without Borders and Luiss Data Lab, featuring special interventions by Matteo Cortese (RAI) and Claudio Cappon (Copeam).
The session is designed to showcase best practices and examples of tangible benefits that the Journalism Trust Initiative can bring to editorial teams of various types and sizes, including testimonials from international media regarding their journalistic standards. It will be followed by a practical exercise session, including initial steps in self-assessment through questions and answers.
Respect for professional standards is widely considered a duty in our profession but is often treated as a burden rather than a resource. Algorithms even seem to amplify and reward the exact opposite: sensationalism, clickbait, falsehoods, and hate.
Reporters Without Borders initiated the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) to overturn this logic and propose a solution to distinguish and privilege media that adhere to ethical rules over all other online content. The Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) is an international standard (approved by the European Committee for Standardization) created with 130 organizations to label reliable journalism.
From its pilot phase, more than 500 media have chosen to engage in this process. RAI news 24 in Italy, France Télévisions in France, swissinfo.ch in Switzerland, RTE News in Ireland, or CBC-Radio Canada are among the first certified media.
