Giuseppe Abbamonte has been appointed as the new director for media and data in the European Commission's Directorate General 'Connect', which reports to Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes. Giuseppe, whose appointment was decided by the College of Commissioners, is currently head of the security unit of the same DG with responsibility for improving internet security and online privacy in the EU, and under his supervision the EU cybersecurity strategy was implemented. The newly appointed director, a lawyer by training, has had a 20-year career in the Commission in various fields, from transport to competition to justice and then the digital agenda.
